About Us

The group is run entirely by volunteers and aims to provide the best possible support to local people with MND, their families and carers. Originally formed over 28 years ago, the original Branch has undergone a number of organisational changes. These changes included changing to a fundraising Group because of the lack of committee members and eventually relaunching the current Group structure in February 2007. Remaining flexible is a key feature to our success and we are very proud that the founding members are still very much part of and completely involved in the Group’s activities.

Our Group Objectives are to support people affected by MND in the Swindon and North Wiltshire are, to raise awareness of MND and the MND Association and to fundraise locally.

Getting involved with your Local Group is an excellent way of meeting people in similar circumstances and supporting the work of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association). New members are always welcome, whether or not they have experience of the disease and their help is greatly appreciated. We always need volunteers for a variety of jobs with the Group.

Support Meeting Facilitator

I previously was a volunteer holistic therapist at the Prospect Hospice and met several people there with MND and wanted to help them. I was asked to go along to the MND Support Group meetings to offer therapies to people with MND and their carers & became involved  with the group. I later became an Association Visitor for several years.

Fundraiser

A close family member was diagnosed with MND in late 2016 and sadly passed away in February 2018.  Having seen the caring support and help provided by the group I wanted to contribute to helping other people with the disease.
